John Steinbeck's "Of Rats and Men": Character Evaluation of Curley's Wife

Initially the character of Curley's Wife is defined to the viewers by the males on the farm that George and Lennie last focus on, in their interactions with each other, ahead of Curley's Wife's character is fully presented with presentation and information of looks. Expressions, like the idiom " she got the eye”, are used to identify her, suggesting that she is promiscuous and flirtatious, a thing that is later on emphasised by simply her becoming referred to by the derogatory term of " tart£, implying that she actually is suggestive and maybe even for a prostitute regarding the way the lady portrays herself. The word " tart” can also suggest that the girl presents very little flamboyantly before the men with the ranch, illustrating her desolation for interest. The fact that she is married and is still promiscuous and portrays very little flamboyantly facing other men could suggest that she is unfaithful and immoral, or alternatively that her sexual needs are not happy by her husband, offering a reasonable justification to so why Curley would wear a baseball glove " fulla vasaline”, something that is seen as " dirty” by George. The girl with described to become " seriously made up” which could increase her disloyal and false as she almost is disguised and covered up by makeup products, covering her real natural appearance. Steinbeck purposefully provides Curley's Partner negatively through the ranch males in order to make an initial pessimistic and hateful approach toward her character by the readers. The lack of electrical power and expert that revolves around Curley's Partner is personified through her being known as either merely someone's wife, or, through derogatory terms such as " tart” and " jailbait”, by the men at the ranch. Her insufficient identity might be a symbol actively created by author to see the readers regarding the insignificance of a female's role in society during the Great Depression, and how men had been far more prominent in relationships, leading to girls having unequal, if virtually any, power. Men are shown to be more major as instead of Curley staying referred to as his wife's partner; his wife is referred to as his wife, without by her own brand. Also, her being discussed as someone's wife may suggest she is seen more as a control than a person. Furthermore her lack of identity straight away demotes her status at the hacienda, making her seem unimportant and also making her a lot like other helpless and low status people on the hacienda such as Sweets and Crooks. There is a impression of irony in section four the moment Curley's Better half refers to Thieves, Candy and Lennie while the " weak ones” on the hacienda, when they have been completely left behind simply by other staff who have eliminated out, although she will not even admit the fact that she isn't even known as by her name, and is seen more of a possession and item of Curley, rather than a person. Because the new progresses and develops, therefore does the character of Curley's Wife. Curley's Wife is usually portrayed since bold and dangerous persona when she actually is fully introduced, developing her from staying someone who basically known well or cared about, to someone who is usually feared, as she is averted by everyone, hence producing her effective. At times apparently even her own partner is trying to abandon her as the girl with always " Looking for Curley”. Part of the cause to how come she is averted includes the ranch workers thinking of her as " jailbait” and a " rat trap”. The words " bait” and " trap” are cross linked as you has connotations such as draw, temptation and imply her being provocative, where the different has connotations such as dread suffering and imply her being dangerous, therefore exhibiting her as powerful. The color of her lips is red, " rouged lips”, her fingernails are red " her fingernails had been red” and, the colour of her shoes or boots is crimson " the lady wore/.. reddish mules”. The colour red has connotations including fire, fury, anguish and pain, emphasising the point that she is hazardous. Alternatively, the colour red also has connotations such as romance, preaching,...
